Hi! My name is Lakenya…and I am so glad you are here…

I founded Start Anew Counseling and Wellness for individuals just like you…strong, capable, and high-achieving. Whether you silently struggle with depression, anxiety, stress, and life transitions…just know that you do not have to be alone!

Start Anew Counseling and Wellness was designed to provide a warm, supportive, and professional space where you can reconnect with yourself, heal old wounds, and rediscover your sense of purpose and peace.

My Story

My decision to become a therapist, and to create this practice, was deeply personal. I’ve experienced my own trauma and found myself at a crossroads, unsure how to move forward.

Through my own healing journey and powerful therapy experiences, I discovered the strength that comes from doing the inner work. Start Anew Counseling was born out of that transformation. It exists to offer others the same opportunity—to create a new beginning rooted in self-awareness, healing, and growth.

When I’m not working with clients, I’m living fully—dancing until my feet hurt, traveling, reading, and cherishing time with my family.

My Professional Background

I received my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Memphis, where I was inducted into the Phi Alpha Honor Society and ranked among the top in my class.

Over the years, I’ve worked in a wide range of settings, from psychiatric hospitals to community mental health centers, always driven by the same mission: to help people break free from what’s holding them back and begin again.
